Artist Isabel Perez Featured at Lee Wagener Art GalleryFort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Artist Isabel PerezWetlands, 2010, 48 x 48″Between Two Lands, an exhibition by artist Isabel Perez, opened at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in early July. The exhibition, at the Lee Wagener Art Gallery, in Terminal 2 Departure Level, will run for three months, through October, 2011.Isabel Perez was born in Caracas, Venezuela. She majored in Fine Arts at the Cristobal Rojas School of Visual Arts and received a scholarship in Drawing I and II from the Federico Brandt Art Institute. Perez studied stained glass, wood carving, molding, and photography. In her work, she uses many different mediums including oil, acrylic and mixed media. She has exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally.Between Two Lands is a collection of different works characterized by the presence of landscapes and magical, imaginary trees. The visual impact caused by the difference in the nature of Perezs birth country and Florida are reflected in more than 10 artworks created in different formats. Using trees and landscapes as a reflection of her emotions while creating in mixed media, the artist superimposed layers of painted and sewn fabrics, reinforced with recycled materials, thread and nets.T

2011 CSAG Scholar Award Winners
June 2011 President’s Message/Laurianne Macdonald
Most of our residents and even some of members do not realize that the Coral Springs Artist Guild has been around for almost 40 years. Established in 1973, the nonprofit organization has seen its share of ups and downs, and gone through many changes. The one thing that has stayed the same is its dedication to sharing and inspiring. For the last 25 years the guild has sponsored an annual juried art competition for the Coral Springs graduating seniors. One student from each high school receives a cash scholar award, certificate of achievement, and a year’s honorary membership to the Coral Springs Artist Guild. They must present a portfolio to the judges in April or May and one talented student is picked from each school.
This year’s winners are as follows;
John Cavanough from Coral Springs High School
Maxine Gleiberman from Marjory Stoneman Douglas
Taylor Hollander from Coral Springs Charter
Trisha McCutchen from Coral Glades High School
Anna Waurzyniak from J.P. Taravella
I would like to thank all our judges, Loretta Herman, Lester Wolfe, Al Rosenfeld, Eleanor & Robert Richter, and Candy & John Childrey, for their dedication to the worthy cause. I’d also like to welcome our new board members, Robert Grauer and Raymond Rivera. They are talented artists, bringing enthusiasm and new ideas to our guild and the board.
Have a great summer! The board members will not meet again until the last week of August, but please remember to work on a submission for the Coral Springs Festival of Arts Signature Artist competition. Entries are due by September 15th.
